New research shows that eating cheese may help you quit smoking. Researchers have found that some foods such as cheese, broccoli and even water can make the taste of cigarettes less desirable.
This research has led some to believe that certain diets that make cigarettes less tasty may help people quit smoking. For example, eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables may make smoking less enjoyable and therefore cause smokers to smoke fewer cigarettes.
On the other hand some foods such as caffeinated drinks and alcohol can improve the taste of cigarettes and make smoking cigarettes more enjoyable.

Smokers beware ….smoking in your car can significantly lower the value of your car. If you are a smoker, you may have a more difficult time selling your car if you have smoked in it and that’s even if you sell it at a discounted price.
The British Auction Company, a large used car seller in the UK, has said that it is more difficult to sell a car previously owned by a smoker. People apparently don’t want a car that smells of smoke or has nicotine stains…even at a discounted price.
So it seems that smoking has many hidden costs.
With the ban on smoking in indoor places soon to be in place throughout the UK, more people may turn to smoking in their cars in greater amounts.

Everyone knows it’s against the law to drink and drive… but who would have thought that smoking and driving would be illegal. It seems that if the Local Authority Road Safety Officers’ Association in England has their way, diving while smoking could be banned.
The group believes that smoking while driving is a dangerous distraction that causes accidents. The group claims that there is some research that shows smokers have more car accidents.
It may, however, be a while before such a ban is in place in England. It seems that such a smoking and driving ban is only in the early discussion stage.

I stumbled across this blog post today, A Truck Divers thoughts…
…I’ve smoked since I was the age of 15. That’s 13 years for those who are well with math. Why have I decided to quit smoking? My father passed away in October 2005 of a heart attack at the age of 64. No he wasn’t young, but we were not ready to lose him. It states on his death certificate that a factor of his heart problems was the fact that he smoked. When I think of that, I look at my children and tell myself that I want the ability to live a long life with my children. I want to have enough time to eventually retire and enjoy my children’s children. How did I quit?…
Read his entire post and find out how he quit smoking:

I love hearing about the reasons that caused smokers to quit and how they quit smoking.

Yesterday, I took The Great American Health Check. It was a real eye opener. Even though I no longer smoke, I still have some pretty poor health habits …and I didn’t realize that they put me at an increased risk of getting cancer.
For example, did you know…
The Great American Health Check is an online health quiz offered by the American Cancer Society. It only takes about 5 minutes to take the quiz and will provide you with your own personal Health Profile. Based on your quiz answers you will find out which cancers you are at most risk for.
Why not take 5 minutes to check your cancer risk?

Studies have shown that smoking causes skin damage. A study of smokers found that they have much more wrinkled and leathery skin than smokers…and the amount of skin damage increases with the amount of cigarettes smoked each day and years of smoking. Researchers also noticed that long time smokers also have a yellow hue to their skin.
Smoking apparently cause skin damage because it interferes with the body natural regeneration of new skin. Smoking constricts blood vessels making it difficult for nutrients and oxygen to get to the skin and thereby interrupting the natural skin growth.
The good news is if you stop smoking your skin will begin to look healthier and you can stop the skin aging affects of smoking.

There is a nice post written about the effects of second hand smoke on pets at weknowbulldogs.com. For example, did you know that second hand smoke can cause respiratory infections, lung inflammation and asthma in pets.
There are 69.1 million pets in US households and 44 million smokers in the United States. That adds up to a lot pets being exposed to of second hand smoke.
